Chilthorne Domer Church School
Together we Love, we Aim High and we Celebrate!
In September, children from each year group put themselves forward to be their class representative. The children in each class then vote for who they would like to be their school councillors.
Our school council meet regularly with Mrs Chesterton to represent the student body of the school, show visitors around the school and represent the school in various other things.
"We are the voice of the students' thoughts"
With this aim in mind, please see any of our School Council members or alternatively, place your suggestions in the School Council box in the library.
School in a Bag have been Chilthorne Domer Church School's charity of the year for 23-24 and we have been busy raising money with the aim of funding and packing 150 school bags. These bags cost just £20 each but will enable a child to access an education - something many millions of children can only dream of.
Together with School in a Bag and the charity Frontline, Chilthorne Domer will be responsible for getting the first ever school bags to Djibouti - a tiny country in Africa. Frontline built the first ever school in Djibouti in 2021, Lac Abbe Primary School, and whilst the government are funding teachers, they cannot afford resources.
This is where our hard work comes in - the school bags we raise money for will go directly to the children in this school and will be delivered in November by Mrs Chesterton (hopefully!) and other volunteers. As the children have to walk for hours to get to school, children and staff will be completing a sponsored walk to get a taste of just what these children have to go through just to get an education. Some children walk a half marathon just to get to school - we are going to aim to do the same!
On Monday 15th July, we will set off from school and complete as many local loops as possible during the day. This loop will be accessible to our youngest/most vulnerable children but the amount of loops will be the challenge for those more able. Our loop will take us via our local church and School in a Bag HQ so the children can see where all the hard work happens.
For every child that raises enough to fund a school bag, not only will they be able to track their specific bag, see exactly who it has been given to and feel immensely proud of the part everyone has paid in enabling the children of Djibouti to have an education, they will also receive a much desired School in a Bag medal for their efforts. There will also be a prize for the top fundraiser!
Children have sponsor forms to collect the details of their sponsors but money should be donated through the Just Giving page linked below so that it's easy for the charity to get the money.
Thank you for supporting our efforts and this amazing local charity. Together, we are making a difference to children's futures❤️
