Weekly Prayer

Ed Gregory
Director of Education
Diocese of Bath and Wells
Monday 13th July 2026

In this year of prayer across our diocese, please know that you are being prayed for, with great appreciation and gratitude, across our diocese.

Psalm 23 - an invitation for you to take this prayerfully or reflectively into the summer break:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil,
for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Or a modern paraphrase in readiness for next year?

The Lord is my Pacesetter; I will not rush...

He makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals.

He provides me with stillness, which restores my serenity.

He leads me in ways of efficiency, through calmness of mind; and His guidance is peace.

Even though I have a great many things to accomplish each day, I will not fret, for His presence is here.

His timelessness and all-importance will keep me in balance.

He prepares refreshment and renewal in the midst of my activity, by anointing my mind with His oils of tranquility.

My cup of joyous energy overflows.

Surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruits of my hours, and I shall walk in the peace of the Lord forever

A prayer from the diocesan prayer calendar

We pray for all those who work with young people through churches, youth organisations, schools and colleges. May your Holy Spirit refresh and renew them today. Lord of the Harvest, raise up a new crop of workers with a heart for young people.

Amen
