Together we Love, we Aim High and we Celebrate!

Wednesday

Today we are going to be "Reading as Writers!" and will be looking specifically at how authors develop settings. What techniques do they use? How do they create an image in the reader's mind and are there any techniques we think we could use when we develop the settings included in the book A River.

I have attached 3 different texts below. Choose which one you feel is right for your ability (one star is the easiest, then 2 star and three star is the most challenging). Can you identify what techniques they use?

YOU SHOULD NOW KNOW THE NAMES OF SOME OF THESE TECHNIQUES, but if you're really stuck is there any...

personification, similes, use of weather or time of day and how has the author used their senses?

If you are unable to print the sheets at home, look at the extracts on the screen and make notes, with examples.

Once you have done this, have a go yourself! I would like you to develop this sentence using some of the techniques identified...

IT WAS NIGHT TIME...
